Emergent Fields
CONCEPT
Emergent Fields explores the formation of complex visual patterns through simple rule-based behaviors in a real-time interactive environment. The project investigates how forms can arise, evolve, and dissolve through continuous computation, without predefined outcomes or fixed compositions
Five distinct computational systems run in real time, each a different theory of how order arises from noise. No two pieces are the same. Each visitor generates something that has never existed before and will never exist again.
APPROACH
exhibition proposal | interactive installation | 2026

The project is structured as five distinct computational studies, each examining a different way in which order can emerge from simple rules. Together, they form a spectrum from continuous, predictable systems to decentralized, unpredictable behaviors.
resonance
explores how harmonic relationships can produce structured continuity. By combining oscillating functions, the system generates smooth, repeating curves that suggest stability emerging from periodic motion.
bloom
investigates growth as a generative principle. Inspired by natural distribution patterns, forms expand outward through iterative rules, creating dense, organic structures from simple incremental additions.
interference
focuses on interaction between overlapping systems. Multiple wave sources intersect in space, producing complex patterns through constructive and destructive interference, where order arises from collision.
emergence
examines collective behavior without central control. Individual agents follow local rules, yet together form coordinated movement, demonstrating how complexity can arise from decentralized interactions
fragmentation
studies breakdown as a generative process. Continuous surfaces are divided into smaller units, revealing how structure can persist even as it disintegrates into modular, repeating elements.
INTERACTION
No two visitors encounter the same piece.
The system runs continuously in real time, generating unique visual states that cannot be repeated. Viewers can interact with the installation to influence perspective and initiate new configurations, becoming participants in the unfolding process. Every interaction results in a transient composition existing only in that moment.
